The band around Mark Everett is just as elusive as the slippery fish of the same name. One moment they are as gloomy as an overcast sky on a rainy day, the next the sun peaks through the clouds and they sound as lovely as can be. Their twelfth studio album ‘The Deconstruction’ adheres to this tried and tested recipe although it must be said the album almost didn’t happen. Frontman E suffered from a burnout after the umpteenth tour. He took a few years off to get married, become a dad and then divorce his wife again. Turbulent but inspiring times that E wrapped in heart-wrenchingly beautiful melodies. Yes, life sucks but Eels will get you through it.
