Biography

Ghanaian icon Ata Kak released his cassette ‘Obaa Sima’ in 1994 but it wasn’t until 2006 that American musicologist Brian Shimkovitz got hold of the tape. The consequence? The legendary blog ‘Awesome tapes from Africa’. The mix of highlife, rap, funk, hip hop and electronics was recorded in the captivating lo-fi ‘bedroom’ tradition of old Chicago house but delivered with Prince-like passion.
